What is missing from the Reykjavik Card?

The Reykjavik City Card offers a number of benefits, including free admission to numerous museums, unlimited use of city buses, free visits to public swimming pools and discounts on various tours and services.

However, there are also some popular attractions that are not covered by the City Card. Many travellers also book the following sights and tours:

Golden Circle Tour

The Golden Circle is Iceland's most popular sightseeing route, starting and ending in Reykjavík. Over a distance of around 250 kilometres, visitors experience three main attractions: the Þingvellir National Park, where the tectonic plates meet, the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area with the active Strokkur geyser.

The tour usually lasts 6-8 hours and, in addition to the main sights, also offers stops such as the Kerið volcanic crater or the opportunity to relax in the Secret Lagoon. Visitors can look forward to breathtaking natural phenomena, historical sites and the unique landscape of Iceland.

Day trip to the south of Iceland

Day trips to the south of Iceland from Reykjavík offer visitors an impressive variety of natural wonders. The tours run along the picturesque south coast and usually include stops at the majestic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss as well as the black sand beach Reynisfjara near Vík.

Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers such as Sólheimajökull and the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The journeys usually take 10 to 14 hours and offer a perfect mix of impressive landscapes, waterfalls, black sand beaches and glaciers that represent the rugged beauty of Iceland.

Airport bus

The Flybus airport transfer in Reykjavík offers a cheap and convenient way to get from Keflavík International Airport to the city centre. The buses depart right outside the terminal and are timed to coincide with the arrival times of all flights, so travellers can usually find a bus within 35 to 40 minutes of landing.

The journey to BSÍ bus station in the centre of Reykjavík takes between 50 and 90 minutes, depending on traffic. For added convenience, Flybus also offers a hotel shuttle service that provides a direct connection to nearby accommodation.

Guided city tour

City tours in Reykjavík are a great way to get to know the charming capital of Iceland. Visitors can look forward to informative and entertaining tours led by experienced, local guides.

During a typical tour, which lasts around two to three hours, participants get to see central sights such as the impressive Hallgrímskirkja, the modern Harpa concert hall and the picturesque Tjörnin city pond, where you can observe numerous water birds.

Hop-on/Hop-off bus

The hop-on hop-off tours in Reykjavík offer visitors a convenient way to explore the city. The route includes numerous stops, including major sights such as Hallgrímskirkja, the National Museum of Iceland and Harpa Concert Hall. Passengers can get off at any of the stops and explore the sights at their own pace.

The tour lasts around 75 minutes and is particularly suitable for visitors who want to spend more time at specific locations.

Blue lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous thermal baths and is located on the Reykjanes peninsula, around 30 minutes from Reykjavík. Visitors can relax in the milky blue, mineral-rich water with a temperature of 37 to 42 °C.

The water contains silica, algae and minerals that not only contribute to relaxation, but also have skin-caring properties, especially for skin conditions such as psoriasis. The lagoon is surrounded by impressive lava fields and offers additional amenities such as saunas, steam baths and an in-water bar.
